What Eddie Howe screamed at Alexander Isak immediately after his horrible miss against Chelsea

Eddie Howe was furious with Alexander Isak against Chelsea.

It is no surprise, as the Newcastle United striker wasted an incredible chance to draw his side level at Stamford Bridge.

It was a moment of selfishness from Alexander Isak, who showed great endeavour to carve out an opportunity to make it 2-2.

The forward rounded Robert Sanchez, but the angle was too tight. He drove from the touchline towards goal, with Joelinton in prime position for a tap in.

Incredibly, Isak ignored him. He went for glory himself, taking on Levi Colwill before Moises Caicedo robbed him of possession. Just like that, Newcastle’s biggest chance to equalise was wasted.

Isak did not even apologise to his Newcastle teammates after the miss.

It is hard to comprehend what Isak did against Chelsea. His error was seismic, as Newcastle went on to lose 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Eddie Howe was raging with the Sweden international, and understandably so.

According to the Chronicle, Howe screamed ‘what are you doing?’ immediately after Isak’s second half miss.

That was probably the reaction of everyone associated with Newcastle United, both inside Stamford Bridge and watching at home.

Awful afternoon for Isak despite ending goal drought

Isak was the Newcastle United hero in the first half. He ended his goalscoring drought, capping off a wonderful team move with a tap in to make it 1-1.

It was just his second goal of the season, with his other coming in the 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park.

But that was the only high point of Isak’s afternoon in the capital. He was partially to blame for Chelsea’s winner, as he cheaply conceded possession on the halfway line just moments before Cole Palmer scored to make it 2-1.

Then came that moment at the other end of the pitch.

When you are a striker that is as good as Isak, you have to have a selfish streak in you. You have to have that type of ruthlessness to be one of the best goalscorers in world football.

But what he did against Chelsea was unforgivable. If you are going to be that selfish, you have to deliver.

Isak did not deliver, and it has cost Newcastle United.
