Newcastle United conceded late to draw with West Ham United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, much to the anger of Toon defender Dan Burn.

There was a Champions League hangover for the Magpies, who could only follow up their incredible 4-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain with a draw at the London Stadium.

After a poor first half, Newcastle were able to rally and respond after the break. Alexander Isak scored a brace for the Magpies, as Eddie Howe’s side showed their class to turn the game around.

It would have been a really impressive win on the road, but Newcastle could not hold on. Mohammed Kudus scored his first Premier League goal in the 89th minute, much to the frustration of Dan Burn and co.

They state that he ‘threw his arms up in the air and jumped up and down on the spot in frustration’.

When you put it like that, you make Burn sound like a toddler – a 6ft 7in toddler!

But it was crushing to concede so late, having done so well to come from behind. Newcastle were really poor in the first half, but responded in emphatic fashion.

To play like they did in the second half was so impressive, especially after a poor first 45 minutes and an emotionally draining game just a few days earlier.

Eventually, the Magpies’ hard work and endeavour caught up on them. They just could not get close enough to Kudus in the 89th minute to stop him, as he thundered home West Ham’s equaliser.

It was fine margins. Had Sandro Tonali been a little quicker or a bit closer, he would have blocked the shot. But he wasn’t and West Ham were able to snatch a point.

It was a point they deserved, but that does not make it any less disappointing. It was frustrating, and Burn could not hide his anger.
