Eddie Howe’s Premier League points tally at Newcastle United has clicked over into triple digits following the 2-1 win at Brentford this afternoon.

100 points in under one and a half seasons. Who’d have thought Newcastle would be capable of such things?

It usually takes us two and a half seasons to reach that kind of points tally. but Eddie Howe has done it in just over a year, which, when you think of where we were and how few points we had when he walked through the door, it’s a truly phenomenal achievement.

Howe is second in the race to 100 PL points for Newcastle

Only Kevin Keegan got to 100 points quicker back in 1994 according to Sky Sports. It took Special K 51 games to hit the triple digits mark whereas it has taken Howe 56. I’d argue that despite the five game difference, Howe’s achievement is actually more impressive.

The quality of the squad Howe inherited was way off what Keegan was working with in 1994, not to mention that morale and confidence were in the toilet when he took over too. Granted we had the recent takeover to give us hope, and ultimately we strengthened the squad a couple of months into Howe’s reign, but the task he was facing was monumental.

Whichever manager you lean towards in this debate, it’s becoming clear that Eddie Howe is on the fast track to the Newcastle United hall of fame.

He had his doubters when he was announced. In fact, TalkSPORT’s Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy burst out laughing at the thought of Eddie Howe managing Newcastle post-takeover. Well, how’s laughing now, lads?

Howe has done enough already to earn legend status

I’m confident that Howe will be the manager that finally requires the St James’ Park staff to go hunting around for the key to the trophy cabinet in order to place some shiny new silverware in there.

Even if Howe doesn’t deliver us a trophy before he moves on, I think he’s already done enough to earn hero status at Newcastle. I mean, nobody else has managed it but we still have our heroes like Keegan and Sir Bobby Robson, so surely Howe deserves to held in a similar regard.

But let’s not think about him leaving, he’s got plenty of unfinished business at St James’ Park and plenty more points to add to his tally.
