Newcastle United got off to the perfect start in their early kick-off against Arsenal when Alexander Isak headed the hosts in front in the 12th minute at St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe made three changes to the team that lost 2-1 at Chelsea last weekend, with Anthony Gordon, Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff coming in for Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Miguel Almion, while Isak, who was a pre-match doubt, was fit enough to start.
And Howe will have been delighted that was able to name the Swede in his starting XI, as the striker scored the opener after a bright start for the hosts.
Gordon found space on the right and put in an in-perfect cross, which Isak was able to head in from ten yards out, planting his effort across Raya and into the top left-hand corner.

Alan Shearer reacts to Isak opener
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer was quick to react to Isak’s opening goal, posting ‘GREAT cross GREAT header,’ on X followed by five clapping emojis.
The former England skipper’s snap judgement was immediately backed by Newcastle fans, with one replying ‘you’d be proud of that header Alan’.
‘Fabulous cross. On a plate @alanshearer and a cross you would have loved too,’ while another said: ‘takes after you’.
Former Scotland striker James McFadden was also quick to praise the goal on BBC Radio 5 Live
“It is a magnificent goal for Newcastle. It comes from a switch of play out to the right to Anthony Gordon, the ball is there to be hit first time and he does, right into the perfect area.
“Alexander Isak just ghosts in between Gabriel and William Saliba and it’s a magnificent header, glances it into the far corner beyond David Raya.”
Alexander Isak finding form is good news for Newcastle
The goal was Isak’s fourth of what has been an injury-hit start to the season but comes after netted against Chelsea in the Premier League last weekend, before he opened the scoring during an excellent performance in the midweek win over the Blues in the Carabao Cup, indicating that his injury struggles are now behind him and he is beginning to show the kind of form that the Newcastle faithful know he is capable of.

The Magpies face Nottingham Forest next weekend ahead of the November international break, with clashes against West Ham and Crystal Palace following as the club look to build some momentum in what has been something of a stop-start campaign so far.
And after netting in three consecutive games, Isak will be a key part of that.
