Newcastle United fans are all saying the same thing about Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon ahead of Leicester

Eddie Howe has decisions to make ahead of Newcastle United’s clash against Leicester City on Monday night in the Premier League.

Indeed, Newcastle United will be expected to win at the King Power Stadium, with the Foxes having lost each of their last seven home games.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side look destined for Premier League relegation and it would be a major shock not to see Eddie Howe’s team roll up to the King Power and win with relative ease.

Still, that’s not to say the Newcastle United manager has it easy.

All of Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and Joelinton are slight injury doubts for Newcastle, albeit none of the issues sound particularly serious at this stage.

Gordon is available again after suspension but picked up a thigh injury while playing for England last month.

Howe has confirmed Gordon is still recovering from a leg injury, although he did admit the winger was training in at least some capacity.

That potentially leaves Harvey Barnes in an interesting position. Barnes was brilliant in the Carabao Cup final and dropping him for Gordon (if fit of course) would feel somewhat harsh.

Newcastle United fans are all saying the same thing about Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon now

It seems plenty of Newcastle fans online are keen for Barnes to retain his place in the starting lineup regardless of whether Gordon makes it.

“Stick with Barnes, he’d run riot, bang in form,” added another fan.

One supporter said: “Barnes. Nowt against Gordon, but Barnes has earned this. Gordon has his name etched on our LW, it’s his spot, but Barnes deserves to start on Monday. The lad’s hungry. FEED HIM!”

Another added: “Has to be Barnes I think. He’s done well and deserves a run. Gordon has had a very so-so season IMO. Nowhere near heights of last season.”

“Barnes has earned it and done well, also doesn’t send a good message if he drops him,” wrote another supporter.

“Barnes to start, deserves to keep his place,” was another claim.

Another fan added: “It doesn’t matter as much now because we won the final anyway but I think Gordon has to earn that place back after what he did against Brighton. He needs to make it up to the rest of the players and earn their trust back + Barnes has been good so start him vs Leicester.”

Gordon, of course, has been hugely important to Newcastle ever since really kicking on after a difficult first few months at the club.

However, dropping Barnes now would be a shame.

The former Leicester man is in fine form and his numbers compare favourably to Gordon’s despite a lack of Premier League starts.

That’s to say the former Everton star should be overlooked completely and few would bet against him reclaiming his spot but surely it’s up to him to earn it back.
