With just seconds remaining, Bruno Guimaraes had Newcastle United fans in a panic on Saturday.
Stoppage time was coming to an end, and Brighton were piling on the pressure. After dominating possession, the Seagulls were desperate for an equaliser.
The ball made its way into the Toon box, only for Bruno to claim possession. One punt up the pitch would likely have been enough for Martin Atkinson to end the game.
But Bruno had other ideas. While everyone around him was scared of what might happen, he was calmness personified.

The Brazilian shifted the ball past the onrushing Brighton attacker, taking it closer to his own goal.
While Toon fans were worried about an imminent error handing Brighton an equaliser, Guimaraes’ faith in his own ability ensured Eddie Howe’s picked up another three points.
Brave Bruno helps Newcastle beat Brighton

It was incredibly bold and brave by Bruno. To do what he did in his own box, so late in the game with so much still to play for took real courage.
It had Toon fans panicking, but it should serve as a sign of things to come. It also shows what a player we have on our hands.
At the moment he can’t get in the starting XI, but Guimaraes is obviously the future of Newcastle’s midfield. We’ve seen glimpses of his talent, as Eddie Howe takes his time with the £42million man.
The more he features, the more confident fans will become in his ability.

There was a gasp of panic when Bruno skipped inside late on on Saturday. 52,00 Geordies watched on in fear. Fans had seen this one before – throwing it away late in the day with an avoidable error.
But that’s not what happened. The 24-year-old dealt with things calmly and composed, helping Newcastle make it eight games without defeat.
While the calibre of player at St James’ Park is improving, it’s certainly going to take some time to get used to the immense talent that is suddenly in the North East.
