‘Some player’… Lewis Hall was seriously impressed with 20-year-old Newcastle player vs Dortmund

Lewis Hall had a difficult night on his Champions League debut, but it was a different story for his Newcastle United teammate.

It was a huge surprise to see Eddie Howe name Lewis Hall in his Newcastle United starting lineup, with the 19-year-old starting on the left of defence against Borussia Dortmund.

It was Hall’s first ever appearance in the Champions League, up against a side that had done a real job on the Magpies at St James’ Park just two weeks earlier.

A lot was asked of Hall, and his job got even harder when he was booked in the ninth minute for a foul on Niclas Fullkrug. In truth, it was a harsh decision that massively hindered his first half performance.

Howe decided to take Hall off at half time, which has now happened in two of his three Newcastle starts since joining the club this summer.

But while Hall has struggled to have a major impact so far since his move to Tyneside, it is a different story for Tino Livramento.

Tino Livramento excels on his Champions League debut

The 20-year-old was also given his Champions League debut against Borussia Dortmund, but looked much more comfortable on the European stage compared to Hall.

Livramento was Newcastle’s best player in Germany, despite having to play in three different positions throughout the 90 minutes. He started on the right wing, then moved to right-back, before switching sides and playing on the left.

Regardless, he looked comfortable wherever he played, and actually created the Magpies’ best chance of the game. Livramento whipped in a beautiful cross in the second half, only for Joelinton to miss a sitter.

While Joelinton’s miss denied Livramento an assist on his Champions League debut, it was still a really impressive outing from the summer signing.

Livramento takes to Instagram, Newcastle teammate Lewis Hall responds

After the defeat to Dortmund, he took to his official Instagram account to reflect on the loss.

Livramento wrote: “Gutted with the result last night but proud to have made my Champions League debut.”

His posted received a reply from teammate Lewis Hall, who commented: “Some player.”

Hall is right, Livramento really is some player. He has impressed against some really elite teams, and it is exciting to know we are going to see more and more of him in the coming weeks.

As for Hall, he showed in the win over Man United what he is really capable of, but did not get the chance to showcase that side of his game in the Champions League after receiving an early booking.

He did not enjoy a great night in Dortmund, but that was true of multiple Toon players.
