Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman raves about Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman raved about Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, after he put in a brilliant tackle on Southampton striker Sekou Mara.

Speaking on co-commentary for the game, the former professional lavished praise on the 25-year-old, who was all over the pitch for the Toon in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final clash.

The Brazilian pulled off an excellent challenge on Mara, after the attacker had made his way past Magpies defender Sven Botman.

“Brilliant, absolutely brilliant from Guimaraes,” Goodman said.

“That’s what I’m saying about a player who does everything.

“Tackles, intercepts and when he’s on the ball, his quality speaks for itself.”

The Toon superstar was absolutely emphatic in the middle of the park for Eddie Howe’s side.

Not only did he dictate the play and create chances going forward, he also demonstrated how strong he is defensively.

Willing to put strong tackles in to win back possession, the 25-year-old illustrated just how crucial he is to Newcastle’s success this season.

Although the entire Magpies team look absolutely electric at the moment, it is the Brazil international who holds the Tyneside outfit together.

Having sustained a few minor injuries this season, Howe will be hoping Guimaraes can remain fit for the second leg of the semi-final, but more importantly, for the remainder of their top-four push.

Otherwise, without him, their hopes and dreams may be dashed.
