Tuesday night’s win over Leicester City will be one that sticks in the memory for Newcastle United fans, and it was a particularly special night for Dan Burn.
Not only did he help his boyhood club reach the semi final of the Carabao Cup, but he also managed to score his first goal for them in front of the Gallowgate.
It has been a remarkable 12 months for Burn, who started 2022 with no hope of moving to St James’ Park. He said it himself – he did not think Newcastle would be interested in a player like him after the takeover.
But fast forward to January 2023, and Burn is a key player at St James’ Park. He is a leader on and off the pitch, and part of the Premier League’s toughest defence.
The £13million signing is absolutely adored on Tyneside. He is the type of character you want to get behind. He is a local lad who fights for the shirt, and someone who will almost certainly never appear on Strictly Come Dancing after his ‘moves’ in the dressing room.

It was an emotional night for Toon fans, and that includes Burn. While he is a key player for Eddie Howe, he is also a fan.
What Dan Burn told Newcastle reporters after his goal
The Athletic have provided information on what Burn did after the game, as reporters clamoured to have a word with Newcastle’s newest scorer.
They report that the 30-year-old initially apologised to those looking to ask him questions, before asking if it was fine for him to speak to his family and friends first.
Burn then went over to his private box down at the corner of the Gallowgate end, and was met with cheers and adulation from his loved ones.
It was a special night for Burn – one that he will never forget. And it is excellent to hear he got to share that wonderful moment with the people that are closest to him.
However, it is funny that he felt the need to ask permission first from the reporters who were waiting to speak to him.
Burn is the man of the moment. A goalscorer on Tyneside. The talk of the Toon. A local hero.
