Report: Crystal Palace set to be without key player against Newcastle on Saturday

Crystal Palace will reportedly be without key player Joachim Andersen for this weekend’s game against Newcastle United.

Eddie Howe’s side travel to Selhurst Park to take on the Eagles, where Patrick Vieira will have to pick a replacement for one of their most important players.

According to the Athletic, Andersen is set to be out of action for the next three weeks. He was forced off against Chelsea on Sunday due to a calf injury, and is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

It is a huge blow for Palace, who will have been relishing the prospect of playing a Newcastle United team that is missing their star player.

But now they are without an important figure too, with both sides depleted ahead of Saturday evening’s encounter.

Andersen and Bruno to miss Crystal Palace vs Newcastle

Newcastle are also going to be without a key player. Bruno Guimaraes injured his ankle in the win over Fulham, and looks certain to miss our next Premier League game.

That is disappointing, but it could have been a lot worse. The Brazilian has reportedly not suffered a serious injury, and could be in contention to return for next Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup semi final with Southampton.

But Newcastle will need to find a way to win without Bruno on Saturday, which is something they have failed to do so far this season.

The 25-year-old has not featured in three of the Magpies’ Premier League games, including the 0-0 draw with Palace in the reverse fixture back in September. The other two games that Bruno missed were the draw at Wolves and the defeat to Liverpool.

While he hasn’t missed a lot of games, Newcastle are winless when the £35million superstar has been unavailable. That is something that Howe will look to change this weekend.

The Magpies have played Palace twice this season in league and cup, with both games ending 0-0. Howe’s side need to find a way of scoring against Vieira’s side, and they will be boosted by Andersen’s absence.

He is an excellent defender and a leader at the back – and he is going to be a big miss. Whether he is a bigger miss than Bruno remains to be seen.

Funnily enough, Bruno and Andersen are former teammates, having briefly played together at Lyon. On Saturday their current sides will clash, but neither will be available.
