Newcastle United failed to build on what had been a successful few days during a thrilling draw with Luton on Saturday.

While the manner of Newcastle’s comeback from 4-2 down cannot be discounted, few would doubt only getting a point from the Hatters at St James’ Park was a disappointing result, particularly after beating Aston Villa earlier this week.

Still, that’s not to say there weren’t moments of brilliance.

Indeed, BBC Sport pundit Pat Nevin noticed something from Lewis Miley.

Lewis Miley: Newcastle star praised vs Luton

The midfielder played a role in the opener, which Sean Longstaff converted from close range in the opening few minutes.

It was the teenager who found Kieran Trippier out wide before the right-back crossed for Longstaff.

“That is a piece of pure class,” Nevin told BBC Radio Five Live at 15.08 GMT on 03/02/2024.

“The ball in the box from Trippier is great but that pass out to him from Lewis Miley is superb.”

Lewis Miley: Newcastle star gets better and better

Miley was recently rewarded with a new contract and it’s easy to see why.

Having adapted so well to life in the Premier League even at such a young age, the midfielder continues to dazzle.

It has been a remarkable start to a career that promises so much. Initially having had to play so often to cover for injuries to other players, the 17-year-old is establishing himself as one of Eddie Howe’s key players.

The ease in which he’s taken to life in the first-team is difficult to explain. The Newcastle academy system has not always been the most productive for the first-team but talents like Miley prove there is worth in it.

During an otherwise difficult season, Miley has been a standout. The future is very bright with him indeed.
