Paul Merson has predicted the outcome of Newcastle’s weekend trip to Watford for Sportskeeda.
Steve Bruce’s side will travel to Vicarage Road looking for their first win of the season.
And former Arsenal star Merson, who also works as a pundit for Sky Sports, sees them getting it.
Merson’s prediction
“Watford got a good result against Norwich last week. Newcastle also impressed against Leeds and with Allan Saint-Maximin in the team, they are a proper handful,” wrote Merson.
“Both teams have pace on the counter, so whoever goes for it is pretty much playing into the other team’s hands. It’s still early days, but every game counts
Newcastle have been wasteful in front of goal – if Callum Wilson was playing, they’d have a lot more points on the board. The two sides could be involved in a relegation dogfight.
“Getting points in the first six or seven games could set the tone for the rest of the campaign. This is definitely a big game and I fancy Newcastle United to come out on top. Prediction: Watford 1-2 Newcastle.“
There might be a fair few Newcastle fans who have watched their side this season who don’t quite agree with Merson’s glowing assessment of their attack’s ability to create chances.
Watford are newly-promoted but already have two wins to their name and sit 11th in the table.
Merson fancies Newcastle to get the job done, but if they don’t the pressure will only ramp up.
