Paul Merson has predicted the result of Newcastle’s clash with Manchester United on Monday for Sportskeeda.
The match will Ralf Rangnick’s side first since their Covid outbreak forced two recent postponements.
Newcastle are looking for a good result after a run of tough fixtures – and Merson thinks they will get it here to kick off their festive schedule.

Merson’s prediction
“These big games are coming thick and fast for Newcastle, aren’t they?
“I thought they showed some good signs last week, but you can’t give away a goal like that so early against Manchester City. Newcastle haven’t been all that bad and managed to give a good account of themselves against Liverpool.
“Manchester United did show signs of vulnerability against Norwich last week. We’re going to see a loud Christmas crowd and a packed St. James’ Park this weekend – this will be a hard game for Manchester United.
“Prediction: Newcastle United 1-1 Manchester United.”

The way Newcastle have played in recent games, they are capable of getting a result off United.
Defensively, they need to cut out the mistakes but the Red Devils struggle when faced with organised defences and played really poorly against Norwich last time around.
A result here would get some confidence and optimism back after a tricky period, at the perfect time with the frantic festive fixtures and the January transfer window ahead.
