Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner was fuming with his team as they failed to contain Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.
It’s another three points in the bag for Newcastle and a very promising step in the right direction with a much better performance than we’ve seen in recent weeks.
THREE HUGE POINTS! 😍 Give us your three-word review!
It still wasn’t perfect, but Newcastle showed determination and perseverance to get past Palace despite a cagey 70 minutes before the first goal.
Eddie Howe felt the nerves at St. James’ Park and so did his players, but his opposite number could have seen this defeat coming a mile off given the nature of the goals his side conceded.

What Oliver Glasner said after Newcastle United vs Crystal Palace
Speaking to the press after the game, Glasner highlighted the fact both of Newcastle’s goals came from set-pieces and ranted about this being a recurring issue for Palace.
He said: “It was a good performance but we can’t defend set plays. Four at Leeds, two tonight and one at Tottenham. It is not acceptable; I need to find solutions.
“We can’t afford to give goals away from set plays. This is the reason we lost today. Everything else, I was pleased. The players always gave maximum effort and that is why everyone is disappointed. We try things and change things. It is our responsibility. Always look what we can improve to give players solutions.”
To be fair, Newcastle’s first goal came from a moment of brilliance from Lewis Miley. The second goal, however, was all down to incredibly sloppy defending from Palace and Malick Thiaw exploited that effectively.

Who was your MOTM against Crystal Palace?!
THREE CRUCIAL POINTS 😍
Glasner clearly isn’t the man for Newcastle
For a while now, there have been murmurs about Eddie Howe eventually being replaced, with Oliver Glasner one of the names mentioned as a potential successor.
After what we saw at St. James’ Park today, it’s not looking like the Austrian has what it takes to step up. He has achieved great things with Crystal Palace, including that FA Cup triumph, but he’s getting found out now.
Palace are now without a win in seven games in all competitions, with Newcastle leapfrogging them after the win today.
