Newcastle United picked up a crucial three points at home to Crystal Palace today and while it was Bruno Guimaraes and Malick Thiaw on the scoresheet, it’s Lewis Miley who has been lavished with praise post-match.

It was a cagey game between Newcastle and Palace for the most part, with the disallowed goal for Anthony Gordon in the first-half being the only real talking point for the first 70 minutes.

Who was your MOTM against Crystal Palace?!

However, the game finally kicked into life when Bruno Guimaraes headed home in the 71st minute, and the Magpies dominated from there.

The skipper impressed, as always, but it’s actually Lewis Miley who came out on top in our Newcastle United player ratings vs Palace. Given the praise he got from the Sky Sports team, it’s easy to see why.

Lewis Miley assist earns rave reviews

During the coverage of the game on Sky Sports, co-commentator Michael Bridges clearly enjoyed Miley’s clever assist for Bruno to get the first goal of the match.

In the immediate aftermath, Bridges said: “He’s been so good defensively today but just keep an eye on Miley at the back post, he doesn’t give up, he gets the ball across there… that touch is crucial from Miley.”

After the game, Bridges also named Miley as his man of the match, and went even further with his praise for the Newcastle academy graduate.

He added: “Not only did he get an assist, but he was brilliant in his defensive duties, his passing accuracy was outstanding, he hasn’t given a ball away. This is not his natural position but the job he’s asked to do, Eddie Howe will be delighted with his performance and how consistent he’s becoming.”

Meanwhile, main commentator David Stowell claimed Miley is “playing like a veteran at 19-years-old.”

Who would you start at right-wing going forward, Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes or Anthony Elanga?

Lewis Miley performance by numbers

The love for Miley was widespread today, with Sofascore also rating him incredibly highly — his score of 8.7 was the second best of any player on the pitch, behind only Malick Thiaw.

Aside from his assist, Miley was brilliant at the back. He made seven defensive contributions including one interception, three clearances, and three ball recoveries. He also won one tackle and a massive nine duels across the 90 minutes.

His passing was phenomenal, too, with all 59 being successful, including a huge 34 passes in the Palace half. Alongside this, Miley also successfully completed five of his six dribbles.

Miley got a special mention from Eddie Howe last week, and we’ve a feeling another glowing review is inbound.
