Anthony Gordon has made a welcome return to the Newcastle United squad ahead of their Premier League game against Brighton on Saturday.
Gordon has missed Newcastle United’s last two games due to a hip injury amid mounting speculation about a summer move away from the club.
How successful could Newcastle United be with Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa playing together? 👀
Howe could make a start by playing them, mind
On Friday, however, manager Eddie Howe confirmed that Gordon had returned to training and he has now been included in the squad ahead of what could be his penultimate home game as a Toon player.
Joelinton returns for Newcastle United, Gordon on the bench
Gordon is only fit enough for the bench, alongside the likes of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa.
Woltemade impressed in a cameo appearance against Arsenal last weekend but it is William Osula who leads the line here.
Dan Burn continues at left-back in place of Lewis Hall, a selection that will no doubt divide opinion among supporters.
Thoughts on this team, Newcastle fans? 🤔 Can’t say I’m too impressed
That front three is, let's say, underwhelming
Lewis Miley operates at right-back with Tino Livramento injured and Kieran Trippier unfancied. Joe Willock also keeps his place alongside Jacob Murphy.
Joelinton comes back into central midfield following his two-match suspension after amassing ten yellow cards during the defeat at Crystal Palace last month.
Nick Pope continues in goal despite an iffy performance against Arsenal last time out.
Newcastle desperately need a win. They have not tasted a victory in the Premier League since beating Chelsea away in mid-March and being dragged into the relegation battle remains a possibility.
Howe is under huge pressure to claim at least one more win before the season is out, which would all-but end any lingering relegation fears.
He does, however, boast a strong looking bench.
Newcastle United confirmed XI vs Brighton: Pope; Miley, Thiaw, Botman, Burn; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; J. Murphy, Osula, Willock
Subs: Ramsdale, Trippier, Hall, Wissa, Gordon, Barnes, Elanga, Woltemade, Ramsey
