Newcastle United fans witnessed a special Sandro Tonali performance against Manchester United.

While Harvey Barnes was Newcastle’s best player, the 24-year-old Italian was a close second.

He was exceptional in Newcastle’s win over Manchester United, with Sandro Tonali opening the scoring at St James’ Park with a lovely volley.

That goal means Tonali has five for the entire season, equalling his best ever tally.

But Tonali’s performance against Man United was about more than his goal. He ensured that the Magpies dominated the midfield battle, while his endless energy meant that Ruben Amorim’s side never got a moment of peace.

That was even true in stoppage time, as Tonali produced a lung-busting run that blew Newcastle United fans away.

Newcastle United supporters blown away by Sandro Tonali’s engine

In the 94th minute, he received the ball from Lewis Miley on the edge of his own box. 10 seconds later he had carried it the length of the pitch into the corner.

It was brilliant game management from the £55million man, who somehow still had enough energy left in the tank to leave multiple red shirts scrambling behind him.

Tonali’s incredible run has been shared on Newcastle United’s official X account, and supporters are still not over what they saw from the Magpies’ midfield maestro.

One fan wrote on X: “94th minute and there’s not a player in the premier league that could have got close to Tonali there. That lad has some engine on him. Easily top 3 midfielders in the league.”

“Insane fitness levels that,” added another.

A third Newcastle fan commented: “You forget just how much pace Tonali has because he often doesn’t have to use it. Partly due to just reading the game well enough that he’s already in the perfect position, or his ability to ping a pass. He can just do it all. He’s world class no wonder the Italians want him back.”

“Not human he’s literally a machine,” wrote this Toon supporter.

Another supporter who was at Sunday’s game commented: “This was celebrated like a goal around us, man. Ridiculous engine.”

Finally, this member of the Toon Army wrote: “This was ridiculous btw just how did he travel at that speed at that minute of the game?! Incredible. Love him.”

Tonali had Newcastle United fans on their feet

That emphatic run was not Tonali’s only impressive moment in front of the Gallowgate in the second half.

Earlier in the game, the former AC Milan midfielder had left Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes in a heap after pressing high and stopping the Portugal international from playing out from the back.

While Tonali could only concede a goal kick, his effort and application brought Newcastle United supporters to their feet. There was a loud roar from the Gallowgate, as they hailed Tonali for his incredible intensity.

That intensity carried on until the final whistle, as Tonali once again showcased his ridiculous stamina.
