Kieran Trippier made his Newcastle United debut as Eddie Howe named a strong side for the FA Cup third round clash with Cambridge United.
Newcastle dominated the first half but could not find the back of the net, in the absence of Callum Wilson through the middle.
Joe Ironside stunned the hosts on 56 minutes with a goal on the break to send the away fans wild twice; once when the goal went in and then again when it was confirmed after a lengthy VAR delay.
It was a dismal result on Trippier’s big day, with Cambridge dumping Newcastle out on their own patch.

The big team news before the game was that Trippier had been handed a start instead of being saved for Premier League matters.
Naturally, plenty of Newcastle fans on Twitter gave their verdict on the new-boy, who is the first signing of the new era.
He showed signs of his quality and looked to take very little time to settle down, although he also suffered a minor knock around ten minutes from time but did all he could to stay on.
The failure to score during long spells on top and the concession to Ironside underline the struggles at the club which cannot be fully solved by Trippier’s arrival, but here is how his maiden performance went down on Twitter…
