Newcastle will be looking to make it three Premier League wins in a row when they welcome Aston Villa to St James’ Park on Sunday.

Eddie Howe’s men have an extra day to recover ahead of the game, as well as the momentum of the 3-1 victory over Everton.

Villa produced a thrilling 3-3 draw with Leeds at Villa Park last night and they will be without Ezri Konsa for their visit to the north east.

The English defender was sent off with two minutes of normal time remaining for a second bookable offence.

Konsa started last night’s game as well as Emi Buendia and Villa boss Steven Gerrard said that the playmaker is an injury doubt for Sunday’s game.

“Buendia is obviously very sore at the moment but, if he’s telling the truth, I’d rather have an impact bang rather than a muscle situation.

“I’m hoping it’s going to be days rather than weeks and, hopefully, we can get him ready for the weekend.

“He wanted to carry on and I admire that but it was clear that we had to make a change. We’ll try and get him ready for the weekend.”

Calum Chambers and Kortney Hause are the leading contenders to replace Konsa at the heart of the Villa backline.

Chambers was signed in the January window and was the man brought on last night when Konsa got sent off.

Therefore, it looks like he is leading the race but Newcastle would do well to put pressure on his new partnership with Tyrone Mings if he is the man who gets the nod.
