Mehrdad Ghodoussi has reminded Bruno Guimaraes of something he previously told the midfielder after Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup quarter final win over Leicester.
The Brazilian won the player of the match award for his performance against the Foxes, and he truly was one of the standout performers on a special night for the Toon.
Bruno dominated the midfield battle, and showed the tenacity needed in a cup tie of such importance. There were flicks and tricks too, while he came agonizingly close to scoring in the first half.
He couldn’t find the net, but Dan Burn and Joelinton did. The Magpies scored two excellent goals, and have now booked in their place in the final four of the competition. They will find out who they play in the semi finals tonight.
After the game, Bruno took to Instagram to celebrate, and he received a message from one of Newcastle’s co-owners.

Ghodoussi’s message to Bruno after Newcastle beat Leicester
The Brazil international posted a picture on his official Instagram account of himself holding the player of the match trophy.
Bruno added the caption: “Thanks for everything in my life! Living my dreams here.”
The post received a couple of notable replies, one of which saw Joe Willock tell Bruno he is the ‘best’.
As for Ghodoussi, he wrote: “I told you you will love Newcastle.”
The 25-year-old joined Newcastle almost a year ago, costing £35million from Lyon. He looked like he could be a game-changing signing, and that has proven to be the case.
Ghodoussi was absolutely right – Bruno is loving life on Tyneside. He is lauded as a hero, and treats St James’ Park as his kingdom. He is the orchestrator in possession, and epitomises the heart and desire you see in the stands.
In the past we have seen ‘arm flappers’ join the club. We have had players who whip the crowd up into a frenzy, but fail to actually back it up on the pitch. But Bruno is different. He plays to the crowd, yet continues to leave them wanting more with his obscene ability.
Ghodoussi told Bruno he would love Newcastle, and that couldn’t be more true. The past year has gone better then anyone expected – even Bruno.
Now a Carabao Cup semi final awaits, with Bruno and co edging closer towards ending Newcastle’s long and painful trophy drought.
