St James’ Park was rocking as Newcastle United beat Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday.

Anthony Gordon’s goal proved the winner on a night when Newcastle could well have scored more to beat an away side who simply could not live with their intensity.

Like last season, St James’ is a fortress again. Both Manchester clubs, Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have all been conquered on Tyneside, with just a bizarre final few minutes against Liverpool earlier this season being the only blot on the copybook.

Still, there has been another narrative during Newcastle’s home games this season. Indeed, co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi called for more from supporters after the win over Chelsea last month.

After beating Man United, Ghodoussi again took to X, formerly Twitter.

Changes in the ticketing system have been suggested as a contributing factor to home games perhaps not always being the cauldron of noise they can be.

Clearly, there is little fans can do about that until decisions are made from above.

Until that point, however, its about getting the most out of what they can. St James’ is a unique stadium and teams have found it difficult to go there throughout the Eddie Howe era.

Could it be better in terms of atmosphere? Perhaps and supporters locked out due to the changes will rightly be feeling angry about the situation.

Still, at least the team aren’t showing many signs of struggling because of it. Newcastle are truly fearsome at home and their success there has been the bedrock upon which Howe has transformed the club.
