Mark Lawrenson has given his prediction for Newcastle United’s trip to face Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday night.
The Magpies need a reaction after that 4-0 defeat at Leicester but face an imperious Reds side inspired by talisman Mo Salah.
Lawrenson of course used to play for Liverpool and has backed his former club to notch up all three points against Eddie Howe’s men.

Lawrenson’s prediction
“When you consider Liverpool’s attacking power and think about Newcastle’s weakness at the back, then there is only going to be one outcome, really.
“We saw again in their heavy defeat against Leicester what a big job Magpies manager Eddie Howe has has on his hands to keep them up, and I can’t see them getting a result here that will help them out much there.
“Lawro’s prediction: Liverpool 3-0 Newcastle.”

Not many would have expected Lawrenson to do anything else than back his former club in this one.
This is a really tricky assignment for Howe, and he will be looking for confidence and resilience from his players after a heavy defeat last time out, going into a tough run of games.
With Salah in this form, Liverpool have to be favourites but Howe will want a good performance and an improvement on Sunday here.
