Josef Martinez shares spine-tingling video after Miguel Almiron’s goal last night

Newcastle United continued their unbeaten pre-season run against Chelsea last night thanks to Miguel Almiron.

The Magpies drew 1-1 with Mauricio Pochettino’s side in Atlanta, with Almiron scoring Newcastle’s equaliser on the stroke of half time after Nicolas Jackson had given Chelsea the lead.

It was a wonderful goal by the Paraguayan, which was made possible by Anthony Gordon. While he was oddly criticised for being ineffective in the first half, the 22-year-old produced a magical pass to play Almiron through on goal.

From there, the 29-year-old did the rest. Miggy took two touches to set himself as he raced beyond Marc Cucurella, before stroking the ball past Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to make it 1-1.

It was Almiron’s second pre-season goal after finding the net against Rangers, but this one was much more special.

That is because it came inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is where Almiron called home before moving to St James’ Park in 2019.

The former Atlanta United star scored on his return, and he followed it up with a very special celebration. He had a great partnership with Josef Martinez, who he shared a trademark celebration with whenever they scored during their time together in the MLS.

When Almiron’s goal hit the back of the net, he rolled back the years and did his half of the celebration.

That will have delighted Martinez, who uploaded a video to his official Twitter account.

The clip shows just how loud Mercedes-Benz Stadium was after Almiron scored.

The noise is absolutely incredible. For reference, this was a friendly. Obviously the Newcastle fans were ecstatic, but the locals were clearly so happy to see one of their former stars return and find the back of the net.

Alongside the video, Martinez wrote: “You deserved all the love my hermano. Enjoy the crown.”

There certainly was a lot of love for Almiron, who appears to be in fine form ahead of the new season.

He was on fire last summer, and it led to his best ever season in a Toon shirt. Hopefully we see more of the same from Wor Miggy, who now has two goals from three friendly appearances.
