Former Newcastle United defender Jose Enrique has slammed Loris Karius for his part in Manchester United’s second goal today in the Carabao Cup final.
Erik ten Hag’s men went 1-0 up in the 33rd minute after a header from Casemiro lofted into the corner of the Magpies’ net.
However, just six minutes later, Marcus Rashford pulled through on goal.
Sven Botman tightly followed the runner, attempting to block the shot at the last moment.

Connecting with the ball, this caused a painful loop in its trajectory.
Karius was already making his way down to palm away Rashford’s shot, whereas Botman’s block sent the ball into the air – making it too late for the keeper to readjust and make the save.
Enrique wasn’t best pleased with the Toon shot-stopper, taking to Twitter to share his feelings.
Never a Karius mistake!
This was never a mistake from Karius – and it certainly wasn’t his fault that Newcastle conceded here.
Following the 29-year-old’s mistake for Liverpool in the Champions League final, Enrique is clearly trying to use the German as a scapegoat.
This is massively unfair, given he was actually very solid in goal for the Toon.
Karius would have likely made the save from Rashford’s shot if the ball wasn’t deflected.

Botman’s tackle caused the ball to deflect into the air, as the keeper was already making his way down to the corner.
In fact, he actually did well to get a hand to it and push it up as best as he could – as there was no chance any stop-stopper would have managed to keep that one out.
This is a tough defeat to accept, but there’s no point in blaming individual players.
This is the time to get fully behind the squad!
