Newcastle’s Premier League season is finally up and running after a 1-0 win over Burnley at St James’ Park.

Callum Wilson was the match winner after he ruthlessly punished a Nick Pope mistake just before half time to rifle the ball home.

It was also a first clean sheet of the season, which was overdue but also a retort to critics who feel Eddie Howe will not be able to do enough to tighten his Newcastle side up.

St James’ Park was absolutely rocking and after the game, Jamie Reuben took to Twitter to react to the vital victory.

Everyone connected with the club will be elated with the win which shows that the survival bid is alive and kicking going into the busy festive period.

Newcastle’s fixtures are very tricky for the rest of the month but this result should give the whole club a lift and an injection of confidence.

There is a renewed spirit and ambition about the club and for that, Howe has to take some credit. Players like Joelinton are reinvigorated and the fans have responded.

The key now is keeping it going as the fixtures mount up and the quality of the forthcoming opponents ramps up.
