Newcastle United have drawn 1-1 Manchester United – and Jamie Reuben and Alan Shearer have reacted to the result.

The Magpies were massively unlucky to only come away with a point at St. James’ Park.

It was a superb team performance, with every single player putting in a shift.

Newcastle were superb all over the pitch, with the midfield – led by the outstanding Joelinton – especially brilliant.

Allan Saint-Maximin got the opening goal, curling into the far corner in the first-half.

But Edinson Cavani levelled the scores without around 20 minutes to go.

The Uruguay international came on at half-time for Ralf Rangnick’s side, who were utterly terrible in the first-half.

It is a good result on the face of it, but Newcastle had the chances to win the game.

Fans have been showering praise on the team, and Jamie Reuben and Alan Shearer have both given their verdicts via Twitter.

Reuben said: “We deserved more! What a passionate performance by the team and supporters. So much to be proud off #WeAreUnited.”

Shearer added: “That was a cracking atmosphere and a very good performance from @NUFC against a very average @ManUtd team tonight. #NEWMUN.”

Before kick-off, Shearer had demanded the team give the fans something to get behind.

And that is absolutely what they did.

Newcastle must maintain this performance level after 1-1 draw with Manchester United

Newcastle were brilliant tonight, and it is a huge shame the team couldn’t hold out for all three points.

David De Gea was phenomenal for Manchester United.

That level of performance from Newcastle though is exactly what is required if the club is to stay up.

If Newcastle can replicate that kind of showing on a consistent basis after January with a few new faces in the team, then there is surely a more than reasonable chance of survival.
