Newcastle United got back to winning ways on Tuesday night.

Not only did they get a win over something of a rival in Aston Villa, Newcastle continued their recent improvement on the road.

While Newcastle’s away form has confused Eddie Howe all season, they have now won their last three away games, albeit two of those were in the FA Cup.

Still, becoming the first team to beat Unai Emery’s side at Villa Park in the Premier League this season is no mean feat.

Indeed, it’s results like that which underline Newcastle’s quality and offer hope of a late push for the top four, although Alexander Isak’s injury does not help matters.

Back from injury of late, Jacob Murphy was speaking of the importance of the result after the game.

Aston Villa 1-3 Newcastle: Jacob Murphy shares what teammates were telling him

Talking to TNT Sports after the full-time whistle, Murphy said: “There was big talk in the dressing room beforehand about how much of a fortress Villa Park is and we had to come here and stamp our authority on the game and we did with two goals from Fab!”

Aston Villa 1-3 Newcastle: A game changer?

To win away from home is a major plus for Newcastle, who had only tasted League victory once on their travels until Tuesday night.

Having done it against a side so strong on their own patch, however, is all the more impressive.

Newcastle haven’t hit the heights of last season but remain capable of beating big teams. Villa have been disposed of twice, while both Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have all been defeated too.

This is a team more than capable of competing on the highest of levels. Now, it’s about finding that consistency going forward.
