Newcastle United are finally back in Premier League action on Saturday, with a trip to Aston Villa first on the agenda.

Eddie Howe’s side begin their Premier League campaign at Villa Park, a ground Newcastle have struggled in over the years.

Still, there are reasons to be positive. Newcastle boast a brilliant squad and are coming off their best season in living memory, albeit the ongoing Alexander Isak saga is an unwelcome distraction.

It will be fascinating to see how this team respond to a challenging summer. It’s worth remembering, of course, that Newcastle didn’t sign a new first-team player before the start of last season and still went on to win the Carabao Cup while qualifying for the Champions League.

It’s a huge game to start things off, so here’s all you need to know about where to watch the game.

Newcastle United’s record at Villa Park

Newcastle have struggled at Villa Park and were smashed there 4-1 on their last visit.

Last season, Unai Emery’s side claimed 40 of their 66 points at home and will no doubt be looking to make a statement on the opening weekend after a difficult summer themselves.

Of their last ten trips to Villa away, Newcastle have won only twice, drawing three times and losing the other five games.

With that in mind, even a draw for Howe’s side would surely have to be seen as a good result.
