Newcastle have completed a run of four winnable games with zero wins.
After three draws in a row, the Magpies went to Brighton desperately needing a win.
But after about five minutes, it was clear that only one team was going to come away with three points. And it wasn’t the one in black and white.
Steve Bruce’s plan clearly wasn’t working, which saw a shift in formation towards the end of the first half.
But an injury to Isaac Hayden forced Bruce to turn to his bench, and gave him the perfect chance to go more attacking. But instead he brought on Jeff Hendrick.
Jacob Murphy was Newcastle’s only attacking change, leaving two very frustrated strikers sitting on the bench.
And according to Chronicle reporter Lee Ryder, the pair made their feelings known at full time.
According to Ryder on Twitter, Dwight Gayle and Andy Carroll stormed down the tunnel following Newcastle’s humiliating defeat to Brighton.
Can you blame Carroll or Gayle?
Newcastle have been toothless in attack since Callum Wilson got injured. Yet Bruce has persisted with a system that doesn’t suit the players available.
Meanwhile, Gayle has either been forced to sit on the bench or play on the left wing. While Carroll has barely had a sniff of action.
Both players are understandably frustrated, and will feel they could have made a difference in recent weeks.
Sadly for them, they haven’t been given the chance.
It was an abysmal performance by Newcastle on Saturday night. It doesn’t look like the players are playing for Bruce.
Meanwhile, the bench consisted of two angry strikers, the bloke who called the manager a coward, and a Longstaff who has been alienated alongside his little brother.
There’s only one way Newcastle United are going right now – down.
