Jason Tindall’s words inspired Newcastle United against Manchester United, rather than Eddie Howe’s.
The Newcastle United manager was forced to miss the game at St James’ Park due to illness, with his assistant Jason Tindall stepping up to lead the side against Man United.
The Magpies did not suffer without Eddie Howe, as Newcastle beat Man United 4-1 to make it five wins on the spin.
A second half blitz propelled Newcastle to victory, having gone into half-time level after Alejandro Garnacho cancelled out Sandro Tonali’s opening goal.

The half-time message inside the Newcastle United dressing room
With the score somehow level at half-time, there was a fear that Newcastle were not going to make their dominance count.
Fortunately, Toon winger Harvey Barnes has admitted that Tindall’s words of inspiration during the interval helped ensure that Newcastle eventually came out on top.
“We were on the front foot from the off,” Barnes told the club’s official website.
“We went in at half-time level but I thought first half we played really well. I think their goal was their first shot on target. They didn’t have a lot in the first half.
“That was the message at half-time. Keep doing what we’re doing. Keep building on that and the chances are going to come. Second half we took our chances really well and saw the game off. It was a great day.”
The second time that Jason Tindall has taken charge of Newcastle United
With Howe unable to attend Sunday’s game due to illness, it was Tindall who took centre stage.
After the game, Howe sent Tindall a message of congratulations, having watched his Newcastle United team pick up another three points without being able to influence proceedings.
This was the second time during his reign as Newcastle United manager that Howe has not been able to take his place on the touchline.
The first instance was actually the first game of Howe’s tenure on Tyneside.
Having been appointed as Steve Bruce’s successor in November 2021, Howe was unable to attend his first game as manager at home to Brentford due to suffering from COVID.
While he was in constant communication with his coaching staff, it was Tindall who patrolled the touchline that day at St James’ Park. Newcastle drew 3-3 with the Bees, with Allan Saint-Maximin grabbing a late equaliser.
