Gary Neville and Roy Keane have given their verdicts on Newcastle United vs Burnley ahead of Saturday’s game.

The Magpies are in action at St James’ Park yet again after Tuesday night’s disappointment. Newcastle’s draw with Spurs felt like a defeat, with Cristian Romero scoring an avoidable equaliser in the 95th minute.

Once again, Newcastle United are forced to bounce back. They are expected to do so, as they welcome relegation-threatened Burnley to Tyneside.

Paul Merson has backed Newcastle to win comfortably, and that is a feeling shared by former Manchester United stars Gary Neville and Roy Keane.

Three HUGE games on the horizon, but are you worried Newcastle could get complacent against a struggling Burnley team?

If Newcastle turn up with the same tempo they set when facing big teams, they will win this game comfortably. If they are complacent, Burnley can hurt them.

Newcastle United’s record against Burnley under Eddie Howe

Given the fact that Newcastle United are at home and improving up against a struggling Burnley side, it is no surprise that they are the favourites for Saturday’s game.

On top of that, Newcastle United’s record against Burnley under Eddie Howe is flawless.

Since arriving as Steve Bruce’s replacement, Howe has won all four of his games against Burnley.

On December 4th 2021, Eddie Howe beat Burnley to get his first win as Newcastle manager! Can you remember the two players missing from the starting XI?🤔

Newcastle United vs Burnley, Eddie Howe's first win

His first win as Newcastle United manager actually came against the Clarets, with Callum Wilson netting the winner in a 1-0 victory over them in December 2021. That win put Newcastle on the path they are on today.

Later that season, the Magpies beat Burnley 2-1 to confirm the Clarets’ relegation to the Championship.

After coming straight back up, Newcastle did the double over Burnley during the 2023/24 season. Their last meeting was at Turf Moor, with Callum Wilson, Sean Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak scoring in a 4-1 win.

Eddie Howe will hope for an equally emphatic victory, as he aims to build up momentum ahead of facing Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League and Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby.
