Ryan Fraser said Eddie Howe did not want his Newcastle players sitting so deep to defend their 2-1 win over Brighton.
Fraser set the Magpies on course for a 2-1 win over the Seagulls when he found the net after a rebound against the run of play.
And speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Fraser said that Howe wanted his side higher up the pitch but admitted it is hard to defend leads proactively sometimes.

“It was a difficult game today,” he said. “We went 2-0 up but then kind of sat back when we should not really have done.
“The gaffer was shouting at us, trying to get us up but sometimes you kind of retreat in a way to protect your lead a little bit.
“To see the game out 2-1, there were nervy moments but in the end it’s a massive win. They started really well but to get two goals in two minutes is huge.”

Fraser has admitted that the team did not fully follow the manager’s instructions to get on the front foot but they got the game won and got over the line.
That is an impressive show of resilience and that is something it is unlikely they would have been able to do under Steve Bruce.
Fraser is one of the players who has been transformed by Howe’s arrival, of course having worked with him at Bournemouth before.
