Eddie Howe names the one Newcastle player he felt played ‘really well’ vs Everton last night

Not all too many Newcastle United players covered themselves in glory away at Everton on Thursday night.

Miguel Almiron and Alexander Isak both missed good chances before Everton romped to a 3-0 win over Newcastle during the closing stages of the game.

While its important to remember how good Kieran Trippier has been in recent weeks, the workload he’s been under appeared to catch up with him at Goodison Park, with the England international rather uncharacteristically making two mistakes.

Elements of Joelinton’s game were praised and Tino Livramento drew special mention but it was hardly much of a vintage night for the club.

Still, Eddie Howe noticed someone who stood out.

Everton vs Newcastle: Eddie Howe says one player handed himself “really, really well”

Indeed, young Lewis Miley was praised by his manager.

Starting his fourth game in a row at the age of just 17, Miley became the sixth-youngest player in Premier League history to achieve that feat behind Cesc Fabregas, Luke Shaw, Wayne Rooney, Nigel Quashie and Gareth Barry.

Speaking after the game (via Hayters TV), Howe said: “You have to take into account Lewy Miley, looking at him individually and his age and being able to deal with not just the games but the pressure that the games bring.

“It’s a huge ask for him but again I thought tonight he handled himself really, really well.”

Lewis Miley: How did Newcastle midfielder play vs Everton?

On what was a poor night for the team, Miley at least remained consistent in his recent performances.

As per WhoScored data, the teenager played two key passes (the second-highest in the Newcastle team), completed two dribbles (joint-highest) and had two shots (joint-second highest).

While not necessarily a performance to grab the headlines such as his assist against Chelsea did, Miley keeps at a nice steady level in the Premier League.

To do that at such a young age and having played so many games recently is pretty remarkable.
