Joelinton had two glorious chances to give Newcastle United the lead against Manchester United, but missed them both.
The 26-year-old managed to hit the woodwork twice in a matter of seconds, at a time when Newcastle were dominating at Old Trafford.
Kieran Trippier had a free kick in a glorious position. Right on the edge of the box, it seemed perfectly setup for the defender to find the net.
But his effort hit the wall and deflected back to his feet. Trippier cleverly hooked the ball back into the area, and into the path of Newcastle’s number seven.
Joelinton did well with the first header. It left David De Gea helpless, who was fortunate enough to see it loop back off of the bar.
Then the most disappointing miss happened. Joelinton’s effort off the crossbar rebounded back into his path, giving him a second chance at glory. However, this time he would hit the post with his head.
It was an agonizing moment for Toon fans – our best chance of the game. We should have scored, and now Man United’s number one De Gea has given his thoughts on the incident.

After the game, De Gea spoke to Manchester United’s official website. He addressed Joelinton’s golden opportunities in the first half.
“That was crazy,” he said.
“As soon as I saw it hit the bar and saw it coming to him again, I said ‘that must be a goal’. But then he hits the post again. But this is football, sometimes the ball wants to come and sometimes not.”

It is hard to blame the Brazilian for not scoring with his first header. It was a great attempt. Slightly lower and it’s in and we’re heralding Joelinton as a genius.
But the second one is a big miss. The keeper is on the deck, and he has the whole goal to aim at. De Gea said it himself – he thought there was no way his sheet was going to remain clean.
But all the £40million man could do was hit the post.
Joelinton could only laugh after the miss, but it was a fresh reminder of his previous troubles at Newcastle. Those were the chances he was failing to convert as our record signing number nine.
Luckily he has found his calling as a centre-midfielder, as he clearly still hasn’t mastered the act of being a poacher.
