Newcastle United are Carabao Cup semi-finalists, but it was not a perfect night for Dan Burn.
The Magpies got the job done on Wednesday night, as Newcastle beat Brentford 3-1 inside St James’ Park to advance to the final four of the Carabao Cup.
Newcastle United have a great opportunity to end their trophy drought, with the Carabao Cup semi-final draw due to take place on Thursday night.
Eddie Howe’s team will definitely take on a ‘big six’ side, but Newcastle have already shown this season that they can handle themselves against the best.
With Sandro Tonali playing so well and Newcastle keeping their cup dream alive, it was an evening of celebration on Tyneside.

Dan Burn unhappy as Newcastle miss out on clean sheet
However, there was one regret for Dan Burn, who was unable to ensure the Magpies kept back-to-back clean sheets.
Despite being in control of the game and winning 3-0, Newcastle conceded a cheap goal in the 91st minute. The Bees hit Newcastle on the break after Will Osula gave away possession, with Yoane Wissa finding the net.
After the game, Dan Burn told the Chronicle that he was frustrated to concede.
“We wish we’d seen the game out a bit better,” he said.
“It is frustrating from a defensive point of view.
“I think it is a lot better recently. We have been a lot more like ourselves in the last few games.”
Newcastle have recovered after defensive shambles
As Burn says, Newcastle United are starting to look more like themselves – at both ends of the pitch.
Earlier in the season, goals were an issue. It was not too long ago that the Magpies struggled to register shots on target against West Ham and Crystal Palace.
Then the defence became an issue, with Alan Shearer calling Newcastle ‘hopeless’ after the defeat to Brentford. Eddie Howe’s side were terrible defensively that day, but appear to have turned the corner.
Newcastle are back to being difficult to play against, while I think the defence is boosted by having Sandro Tonali in front of them.
His tackling ability and running power gives the Toon defence greater protection, with Tonali now looking comfortable in this Newcastle team.
It was frustrating to concede against Brentford, and Burn’s frustration is a testament to the mindset he has as a defender. As soon as Newcastle took the lead, the most important thing for him was keeping a clean sheet, which sadly did not happen.
