Newcastle United may have won all three points against Arsenal, but Callum Wilson lost a tooth.
The 30-year-old started for the first time since December last night, leading the line against a Gunners side who were desperate for victory.
Wilson captained Newcastle for the second time this season, and inspired his team to a 2-0 win inside a passionate and extremely loud St James’ Park.
Mikel Arteta’s side were toothless in their performance, but it was Wilson who ended the night needing a dentist.
Dental woes couldn’t stop Callum Wilson
The incident happened midway through the first half, with the Sky Sports cameras catching a shot of Wilson’s front tooth clinging on for dear life. Even his teeth are injury prone…
But the striker carried on, and put in an almost perfect performance. The only thing that was missing was a goal, but it wasn’t for lack of trying.
Newcastle’s opener initially looked like a Wilson goal, but replays proved it was Benjamin White who got the final touch. The Toon number nine would come close later in the half, and almost netted a sensational half volley from miles out.
Wilson happy to lose a tooth ‘for nights like that’
In the aftermath of the game, Wilson has taken to social media to comment on losing his front tooth.
He wrote on Twitter: “I’d lose a tooth every week for nights like that. What an atmosphere and what a performance from everyone with 3pts to go with it!!”
With how much Newcastle have been winning this year, Wilson wouldn’t have many teeth left if he was true to his word. The Magpies have been rampant in 2022, and ended their St James’ Park campaign in style.
It was one of those nights where everything went right. The atmosphere, the performance, the result. Last night was faultless and will live long in the memory for Toon fans.
It will also live long in the memory for Callum Wilson as the night he lost a tooth. Someone get him to the dentist asap.
