There was an added incentive in the Newcastle United vs West Ham United game on Saturday for Callum Wilson, as it saw him face his podcast pal Michail Antonio.
The duo had made a bet before the game, agreeing that if one of them scored at St James’ Park, they had to celebrate in the other person’s face.
It looked like that was going to happen very early in the game, with Wilson giving the Magpies the lead. He was played through on goal by Sean Longstaff, and confidently slotted it home for his seventh goal of the season.
Listeners of the podcast were eager to see what Wilson had planned for Antonio, but the Newcastle number nine celebrated with his teammates in front of the Gallowgate instead.
Now the pair have spoke about the game, and Antonio has explained what he did after Wilson hit the back of the net.

Why Callum Wilson did not celebrate in front of Michail Antonio
Wilson and Antonio have spoke about Saturday’s game on the latest episode of the Footballer’s Football Podcast, and each gave their account on why the celebration did not happen.
Antonio said: “Listen, I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t about him dancing in my face. So I went over to the side and was stood right by my gaffer and waited for this guy to walk back to the middle because I was like I don’t have time for this guy to dance in my face.
Wilson replied: “Spoil sport. I think a lot of fans and a lot of people were disappointed, asking me where the macarena was. I had to tell them the truth, Michail ran away. I actually looked for him when I was going back to the halfway line and he was stood on the opposite side of the pitch.”
Antonio added: “During the game I actually went to him and went I’m still going to bag and get a brace in your face, I actually said it to him, after he scored his goal I went I’m going to get a brace and we’re going to win. I said you’re going to score a goal and we’re going to win the game. But it didn’t happen so you know what, it is what it is.”
‘Spoil sport’ Antonio
As soon as Wilson scored, it was noticeable that Antonio moved over to the side of the pitch alongside his manager David Moyes. It was a clever move really, as Wilson was never going to dance in front of the Hammers boss as well!
In truth, the bet probably wasn’t a good idea. It was funny to begin with, but was never going to play out in reality.
If Wilson had celebrated in his face it either would have riled up Antonio and sparked an incident, or he would have laughed at the 30-year-old which perhaps wouldn’t have gone down well with the West Ham fans so early in the game.
But at least Wilson got his goal, unlike Antonio. The Newcastle number nine could have scored more too, but passed up two wonderful chances.
As for Antonio, he was kept out of the game by Sven Botman. The Dutchman was brilliant up against the powerful forward, and limited his opportunities.
Antonio told Wilson that he was going to score, but that did not happen. In fact, he didn’t even come close.
