Dan Burn has transformed Newcastle’s defence since arriving in January and he contributed at both ends of the pitch last night.
As per WhoScored, Burn made nine clearances in the 2-1 win at St Mary’s, at least four more than any other player on the pitch in a blue shirt.
But he also laid on Bruno Guimaraes’ winner, and it was almost written in the stars that two new faces would combine to win this game.

Ralph Hasenhuttl complained that new signings should not have been able to play in the rearranged fixture but they could and Burn made a big impact.
He has helped transform the Newcastle backline since his arrival, and Matt Targett down the left of the defence also had another good game.
Newcastle sit 14th, four points behind last night’s opponents with a game in hand and all the momentum going their way.

Joelinton’s injury was another blow for a club which has been hit badly by injuries under Eddie Howe.
But the momentum is almost bulletproof right now, able to overcome any absentee, no matter how important.
That said, Burn is integral and it is to be hoped that he stays fit and firing between now and the end of the campaign.
