Bruno Guimaraes did not feature during Newcastle United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Wednesday night, but was impressed with what he saw from the man who took his place.
Eddie Howe named a three-man midfield of Joelinton, Lewis Miley and Sandro Tonali against the Blues, and it was the local lad who stole the show.
Miley was absolutely exceptional during the Premier League Summer Series clash. He was confident and composed in possession, and did not look out of his depth alongside a £40million player and a £55million player.
The 17-year-old was up against some top class opposition too, but he was not fazed as he went to battle with World Cup winner and the Premier League’s most expensive player Enzo Fernandez.
It was a real joy to watch Miley against Chelsea, and Bruno, who was rested, was delighted with what he saw from the teenager.

After the game, Newcastle United’s official Twitter account uploaded a picture of Miley performing against Chelsea.
The photo prompted a reply from Bruno, who is clearly a big fan of the Toon academy product.
He wrote: “Baller.”
Bruno said what every Toon fan was thinking after watching Miley against Chelsea – although perhaps the more mature supporters weren’t exactly describing him as a ‘baller’…
But it is clear to see just how good he is, and in the case of Bruno, it is game recognising game. The Brazilian is arguably Newcastle’s best player, and he can see what a special talent the club have rising through the ranks.
It is proving to be a wonderful pre-season for the local lad, with Miley showing he can hang with senior pros at the age of 17. You would expect players like him to be bullied, but that is not the case. He has really grown in recent months, and looks like he has the stature to hold his own up against seasoned players.
It gives Howe food for thought, who will be keen to see Miley continue his development. As for Bruno, he will be eager to play alongside the youngster more, rather than watch him from the sidelines.
