Joelinton was absolutely unstoppable against Chelsea, and Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has delivered a special message to the Brazilian midfielder.
After missing last weekend’s win over Southampton due to suspension, Joelinton was back in Eddie Howe’s Premier League starting XI.
The 26-year-old started on the left wing, given the nod in that position ahead of Jacob Murphy and Allan Saint-Maximin.
Given Joelinton’s versatility and Chelsea’s desire to attack with wing-backs, it made sense for Howe to put his hardworking number seven out there.
It was a decision that respected the Blues’ quality – and it was a decision that laid the foundation for another sensational victory.
Joelinton produced another titanic performance on Saturday night. The amount of running he did was incredible – he’s like a supercar that never runs out of petrol.
He played a part in the goal too, playing the lofted ball that set Miguel Almiron away before Joe Willock thundered a shot past Edouard Mendy.
Newcastle were brilliant against Chelsea, completely bullying Graham Potter’s boys. Joelinton was dominant, and has received big praise from Shearer.
Shearer thinks Joelinton was ‘awesome’ against Chelsea
After the game, Joelinton posted on his official Instagram account.
Alongside a series of pictures from the victory, he wrote: “What a game. Thank you for the amazing support again. I will miss you all , see you soon at St James’.”
And Joelinton’s message got a response from Shearer, who commented: “You were awesome today.”
Ever the gentlemen, Joelinton replied: “Thank you legend.”
Shearer’s assessment of Joelinton’s performance is spot on. He truly was brilliant against Chelsea, and was a contender to win the man of the match award. However, it went to Willock instead, which is understandable.
The £40million man was exceptional, and celebrated in a big way. As the fisticuffs began to die down, Joelinton threw his arms into the air and let out a massive roar in front of the Leazes End with the squabbling Chelsea players behind him.
It was a special night for Newcastle, and it was a special performance from Joelinton in the eyes of Shearer. And we’re certainly not going to argue with the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.
