Alan Shearer summed up Newcastle United’s win over Manchester City in perfect fashion on Saturday night.
For the first time in what felt like an age, Newcastle United turned on the style at St James’ Park.
Indeed, Harvey Barnes scored twice as Newcastle beat Man City to send a Premier League statement.
Who was your Newcastle United MOTM against Manchester City?
This is a team who have been questioned of late but Eddie Howe got a reaction from his players after an international break that raised some difficult questions about their progress.
Watching on, Shearer summed it all up perfectly.

Alan Shearer says Newcastle United could have scored more goals vs Man City
The scoreline probably did Pep Guardiola’s side some justice. While they had chances themselves, Newcastle were guilty of wasting their own.
Barnes really should have scored twice in the first half. Nick Woltemade might have done better with a couple of chances.
With that in mind, Shearer is right to suggest that Newcastle “could have scored 6 goals” against a City side who had started to look as if they could challenge for the title.
It was a much more impressive performance than the tight scoreline would suggest.
Alan Shearer just saw his Newcastle United record equalled by Harvey Barnes
Prior to Saturday’s game, the Newcastle United legend was the last player clad in black and white to score twice in a Premier League game against City.
Barnes, however, equalled that on Saturday and could well have smashed it had he finished his chances in the first half.
It was also Howe’s first win over City in the Premier League as manager.
It all clicked at just the right time. Having Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall in the side really did make Newcastle look like a different team entirely.
Barnes, meanwhile, surely cemented his place ahead of Anthony Gordon in the pecking order.
The winger is now Newcastle’s top scorer in all competitions this season with six goals.
