Newcastle have extended their unbeaten run to seven matches with a victory over Brentford on their first visit to the Brentford Community Stadium.
First half goals from Joelinton and Joe Willock ensured Newcastle went in 2-0 up at half-time and that was how it stayed on a crucial afternoon.
The hosts were down to ten men within 11 minutes after Josh Dasilva was shown a straight red after a consultation with VAR.
Shearer took to Twitter to congratulate Joelinton on his goal, which is a deserved reward for his improved performances under Eddie Howe.
He has been a man transformed and a goal was the only thing missing from his upturn but that has now changed.
And Willock took his goal with the confidence of a man who got the monkey off his back at West Ham last weekend and is now flying again.
Shearer’s jubilation is likely to have been shared by Newcastle fans after another afternoon where the Howe revolution rolled on.
Newcastle need to keep playing well and getting results because Burnley have had an uptick too and Watford are battling away.
It seems as if the likes of Brentford, Leeds and Everton can be clawed back and drawn into a dogfight which looked like being a four-way fight earlier this season.
