Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has shared his instant reaction to Aleksandar Mitrovic’s penalty being disallowed against the Magpies.

As the forward struck the ball, he slipped – sending the shot spinning into the far corner.

Despite scoring, the penalty was disallowed and a free-kick was awarded to the Toon. It was ruled that the ball had touched both of the player’s feet.

Taking to Twitter, Shearer reacted to the incident, sending a word-less message to the rest of the north-east fan-base.

Easy let off for Newcastle

Although the penalty was a contentious decision, Eddie Howe’s side were let off by Mitrovic’s mistake.

Having only recently proclaimed his love for his former club, this can’t have been an easy day for the Serbian – who failed to secure Fulham three-points with his spot-kick.

Instead, in the dying embers of the match, Alexander Isak pounced on a loose ball at the back-post, securing the Toon the win.

However, all things considered; Newcastle got away with the win today.

Fulham will surely feel hard done by, as they didn’t really deserve to lose the game.

However, this is what the top sides do. They grind out results when they’re not at their best. This really shows the huge change made under Howe, as it would have been the Magpies’ to lose in previous seasons.

Shearer obviously found Mitrovic’s penalty rather amusing, as it meant his team edged back up to third in the Premier League table.
