Newcastle have extended their Premier League unbeaten run to eight matches with a victory over Brighton at St James’ Park.
The Seagulls dominated the opening exchanges but were unable to find the back of the net before the Magpies hit them with a double blow.
Ryan Fraser broke away to open the scoring after Jacob Murphy hit the post, to send the home fans into raptures.
Around the 15 minute mark, Fabian Schar doubled the advantage when he converted a free kick from out wide to stun Brighton.

Alan Shearer took to Twitter to celebrate the victory, which puts Newcastle within five points of their visitors with a game in hand.
They sit just one place behind Graham Potter’s side now, which is a testament to the transformation in Newcastle’s fortunes since Eddie Howe took over.
Brighton halved the deficit in the second half and it was a nervous second period but Newcastle showed resolve and spirit to see the game through.
They are now seven points clear of the relegation zone and the momentum keeps rumbling on.
Allan Saint-Maximin also made his return from injury off the bench which was another positive on another big day for everyone with a Newcastle persuasion.
He also said that goalscorer Schar was man of the match after an impressive display at both ends of the pitch.
