£40m Newcastle player admits the team didn’t deserve to beat West Ham

Newcastle United had to make-do with a draw against the side that occupied the place above them in the Premier League, West Ham.

It was a strange game between Newcastle and West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

Off the back of Newcastle having barely even a sniff of the ball against PSG and yet coming away 4-1 winners, against West Ham the Magpies dominated possession but struggled to find the goals to go along with it.

Newcastle couldn’t find a way through West Ham in the first half

West Ham took an early lead at the London Stadium against the run of play, but for all of Newcastle’s possession they never really looked like a threat going forward.

It was far from a vintage display, but if there’s one thing Newcastle have been good at this season it’s coming out a better side after the break, and that’s exactly what they did. A two-goal salvo from Alexander Isak saw Newcastle take the lead in the second half.

The Magpies looked good for the win until substitute Mohammed Kudus fired home a long-range effort to tie up the score.

Speaking to NUFC TV after the game, Newcastle’s £40million midfielder Bruno Guimaraes said that Newcastle had to improve in the second half saying: Disappointing. For our first half I think we didn’t deserve to take the three points. It was not good enough.

Newcastle now have two weeks to get some much deserved R&R

“I think in our second half we played very well. Disappointed to take the goal at the end of the game but we move on. We will now enjoy the international break and come back again strong.”

It was a very fair assessment from the Brazilian who just signed a contract extension at Newcastle yesterday.

Newcastle are now unbeaten in seven games since the last international break so hopefully this one will have a positive effect too.
