Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier has officially been selected for 2022 World Cup with England.
Gareth Southgate has named his 26-man squad, and the 32-year-old has made the cut. He is also joined by Magpies teammates Nick Pope and Callum Wilson.
It is no surprise to see Trippier named in the squad. He has been a mainstay for England in recent years, and is one of Southgate’s most reliable players. On top of that, he has also been in tremendous form for his club.
Trippier has been one of the Premier League’s best players this season, and has captained Newcastle to third in the table. The right-back has been a picture of consistency, which is sensational given the elite standard he has been playing at.
It will be the second time in his career that Trippier has been to a World Cup. He was part of the England squad that reached the semi finals in Russia, where he scored in defeat to Croatia. That goal will never be forgotten by Three Lions fans.
Hopefully we see a repeat in Qatar, and the former Atletico Madrid man has been congratulated on his callup by various Toon teammates.
Bruno and more congratulate Trippier after World Cup announcement
After the squad was confirmed, Trippier took to his official Instagram account to express his delight.
Underneath a picture of himself in an England shirt, he wrote: “Delighted to be called up to represent England at this year’s World Cup. It’s always an honour to be involved with the squad and I can’t wait to meet up with the boys, let’s do everyone proud!”
Multiple members of Eddie Howe’s squad have commented on Trippier’s post, and they are all unanimous in their reaction to the England squad announcement.
Bruno Guimaraes wrote: “Deserved bro.”
Sven Botman also commented, adding: “Fully deserved bro.”
And Joe Willock shared that sentiment, writing: “Deserved bro congratulations.”
And one more for good luck – Jacob Murphy commented: “Well deserved bro.”
There were also positive reactions from Miguel Almiron and Matt Targett.
While Bruno may be congratulating Trippier on his callup, the two could clash in the coming weeks. He is also going to the World Cup, having been named in Brazil’s 26-man squad. They are one of the favourites to win it.
Botman could also be an opponent in Qatar. He is yet to discover if he is in the Netherlands squad, but has been named in the provisional 39-man list.
The Newcastle United players are proud to see Trippier go to the World Cup, and believe it is 100% deserved. They couldn’t be more right.
What a player he has proven to be for the Magpies since joining less than a year ago. It’s a move that could have backfired, but it has led to him playing the best football of his career.
Now it has taken him back to the World Cup, where Trippier will hope England can do even better than they did in 2018.
