Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier scores in England training session

A video of Kieran Trippier scoring in an England training session has surfaced online and his celebration is similar to a Newcastle United legend’s.

The 32-year-old is one of two Toon players currently on international duty with the Three Lions. Nick Pope is joining him, having enjoyed a brilliant start to life at St James’ Park.

It’s the first time two Newcastle players have been involved in an England squad since 2007, and they will both hope to be involved in the upcoming fixtures. Gareth Southgate’s side take on Italy on Friday night, then it’s Germany on Monday.

Trippier and co are being put through their paces ahead of the Nations League ties, and the Newcastle right-back has been finding the net in training and channeling his inner Alan Shearer.

A video has been uploaded to England’s official Twitter account of Trippier scoring a goal. The Three Lions can be seen competing in a small-sided game, with Trippier playing on the same team as Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale rather than Pope.

The Gunners goalkeeper hurls the ball down the pitch and into the path of Newcastle’s £12million man. He does the rest, heading past Dean Henderson from close range.

Trippier then runs off in celebration with one arm aloft, just like Shearer used to do for Newcastle and England.

The celebration was less passionate than the last time we saw Trippier find the net. That came against Manchester City when he smashed a stunning free kick past Ederson.

That led to wild scenes inside St James’ Park, which has been a regular occurrence at home when Trippier stands over a dead ball.

He’s not necessarily known for his goalscoring exploits, but he’s found the net on key occasions for Newcastle. He’s also done it for England too, with his only international goal coming in the World Cup semi final in 2018.

Trippier will hope to add to his tally soon, but all Newcastle fans want is for him to return to club action fully fit amid the Magpies’ injury woes.
