Kieran Trippier is arguably England’s best right-back right now, but Newcastle co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi doesn’t think it is up for debate.
Gareth Southgate is set to announce his Three Lions squad for the World Cup this week, and it will almost certainly include Newcastle’s number two. Nick Pope should be involved too, while Callum Wilson is also in with a shout.
But out of the three Toon players who could be going to the World Cup with England, Trippier is certainly the most important.
He has played key roles at the previous two major tournaments under Southgate, scoring in the World Cup semi final and providing an assist in the European Championship final.
And given England’s injuries at right-back, Trippier is surely going to be a starter for England. Reece James is at risk of missing out, and so is Kyle Walker. Then you’ve got Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is struggling for form and not favoured by Southgate.

But who really is England’s best right-back? Ghodoussi has the answer.
Trippier is England’s best according to Ghodoussi
During Newcastle’s 4-1 win over Southampton, Twitter account Sport Bible posted a picture of Trippier with the words: “England’s best right back?”
The tweet prompted a response from Ghodoussi. He simply wrote: “100%.”
He is adamant that Newcastle have England’s best right-back at the moment. And it’s hard to argue with him.
Even if James and Walker were fit, you could make a strong case for Trippier to be top of the pile. He is one of England’s most in form players going into the World Cup, and is enjoying a sensational season in black and white.
Wingers don’t get much change out of him defensively, while he is a constant threat going forward. Newcastle have benefitted greatly from that, with Joe Willock the latest player to score from a Trippier pass.
The £12million man has been outrageously consistent for Newcastle this season, and will be keen to continue his good form in Qatar.
He is without a doubt England’s best right-back right now. And he is also a Newcastle United player, which is the most important thing for Toon fans.
