Mehrdad Ghodoussi reacts on Twitter after Kieran Trippier’s display for England today

Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Kieran Trippier’s display for England today.

The Magpies right-back played the full duration for the Three Lions as they eased to a 6-2 victory over Iran in their opening game of the World Cup.

Even when Harry Kane was substituted off, the 32-year-old took the armband for the remainder of the game.

Taking to Twitter, Ghodoussi shared his praises for the Toon player, also hailing Callum Wilson for his global debut.

“Well done boys, great performance @trippier2 @CallumWilson,” he said.

“Shout out to Iran for fighting till the end.”

Ghodoussi full of praise for Trippier

Having become an absolute force on Tyneside since arriving in January, Trippier has become the face of the ongoing project at Newcastle.

Taking to Gareth Southgate’s starting XI, the 32-year-old put in a strong performance which all Toon fans will be proud of.

The right-back ended the game with five successful tackles and eight duels won – more than any other England player.

Although he made a few mis-placed passes, the defender was very solid for Southgate’s side.

Ghodoussi certainly agrees with this assessment, along with the well-deserved praise for Wilson, who assisted for England’s final goal.

With three Newcastle players in the Three Lions squad, this almost seems like a dream for Magpies fans.

Compared to where the club were last season, things couldn’t be more different.
