Bruno Guimaraes‘ Brazil triumphed over Fabian Schar’s Switzerland on Monday, as the two Newcastle United players went head to head.

It was Tite’s side who came out on top, thanks to a late goal from Manchester United midfielder Casemiro. It was what they deserved on the balance of play, but Brazil were certainly made to work for all three points.

A substitution helped change the tide, with Bruno coming on in the second half. He surprisingly started on the bench yet again, with Fred selected ahead of him.

But the Newcastle star then replaced him in the 57th minute, and showed exactly why he should have been starting. Bruno was excellent on his World Cup debut, and ‘changed the game‘ according to his Toon teammate Joelinton.

It was a tougher night for another Newcastle teammate. Schar’s side tasted defeat, and now face a crucial final game against Serbia. That is set to be a mammoth tie.

The centre-back will hope to feature, but is yet to play a single minute at the World Cup in Qatar.

The night brought contrasting fortunes for Bruno and Schar, but they both have something to remember it by.

Bruno swaps shirts with Schar

During the aftermath of the game, the Brazil players celebrated in front of their travelling fans. That included Bruno, who was absolutely delighted to make his first ever appearance at a World Cup.

And the eagle-eyed viewers will have noticed that the 25-year-old had swapped shirts with one of his opponents. As Bruno celebrated with his teammates, he can be seen holding a ‘Schar 22’ shirt.

The Newcastle duo swapped shirts after the game, which is a wonderful moment to see. Even when club football is put on hold, the team spirit that Eddie Howe has instilled lives on.

And the best thing for Bruno is that he won’t even have to wash it!
